Would Oprah Make a Good Senator?

January 26, 2009 By Sherry Tingley

What do you think of Oprah being appointed President Obama’s old senate seat?

On the first day of Blagojevich’s impeachment  trial for conspiracy and bribery charges, Blagojevich announces that he’s considering nominating Oprah Winfrey to fill the empty U.S. Senate seat left by President Barack Obama. Is there anything else he could do to draw more attention to himself than that?

USA Today reports:

“She was obviously someone with a much broader bully pulpit than other senators,” Blagojevich said. But the Democrat said appointing Winfrey might have been perceived as a gimmick — and that Winfrey probably would not have accepted the appointment anyway.”

What was Oprah’s response?

Oprah said that she was pretty amused by the whole thing and that she would have fallen off her treadmill if she had been working out on it.

She is definitely, not interested.

CNN conducted a phone in survey and here is what several people said:

James from Brooklyn, New York,  says that Oprah may not be bi-partisan. Her opinions may not reflect the opinions of the rest of the country.

Sharese from Seattle, Washington says that she would be the perfect Senator because she understands poverty, she’s totally involved in the community and she can definitely handle it.

Larry, from Louisiana said that Blagojevich is a cynical and evil person and that by considering Oprah as a Senator because he ultimately wants someone in the position to help him get his own way.

What do you think?

Presidential Elections – Trick or Treat?

October 28, 2008 By Sherry Tingley

presidential election

Trick or Treat?

It’s hard to tell with this Presidential Election coming to a close in less than a week whether we wil have a trick or treat. Have we got all the facts to make a good decision? Will the Presidential candidates actually do what they propose when elected?

Will there be a trick or treat?

With new technology on the Internet providing instant replays of everything the candidates say and do, voters are probably more informed about this presidential election than they have ever been in the past.

Social media sites like www.capzles.com have provided voters with an incredible means of viewing and listening to all the information one could possibly want on each candidate’s past and present. www.Capzles.com allows users to upload documents, videos and photographs of whatever they choose and then the information is organized on a time line.

All of the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates have a time-line style profile, complete with photos, videos and all their ads. You can see instant replays of the aircraft accident that John McCain was in during his younger years. You can actually see the plane skidding off the runway of the ship. You can also see pictures of him being pulled out of a Hanoi lake by the North Vietnamese after his plane was shot down. View the actual film footage of him as a prisoner, lying in a hospital bed in Vietnam.

Sarah Palin, mother, moose hunter, maverick, mayor, governor also has an impressive time line. The time line is full of short clips and photos of her career and service.

Barack Obama’s time capsule is equally impressive.  Photos from childhood through the present are interesting to look at. He has posted videos of all of his campaign speeches and one that shows the Charles Keating, Lincoln Savings and loan scandal where five U.S. Senators, including John McCain were investigated for their role in helping Charles Keating to get his charges of fraud reduced.

Joe Biden’s time capsule is rather sparse with only one photo of him.  Wonder why that happened?

So this next week when you go to vote, there should be no excuse for not being informed about which Presidential candidate you are voting for. Don’t let there be any tricks for you!

Sarah Palin Search Stats

September 22, 2008 By Sherry Tingley

Doing keyword research sometimes brings to light some interesting statistics.  While using internet keyword research statistics to determine what the hot topics of conversation are I discovered that
the number of searches for the words Sarah Palin (37,625) has beaten the number of searches for sex videos (21,036).

Anyone care to comment on this?

Inviting all Punahou high school graduates to comment about their favorite Punahou memory.  That includes any Punahou graduates that may even be running for President of the United States, running large corporations or just kicking back on the beach.   A large group of alumni are gathering on LinkedIn to network with one another, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to join us.

Hawaii was certainly a wonderful place to attend high school. Memories of high school events somehow seem to fade away with the sunset.  Anyone have fond memories of beach parties, prom nights, the Punahou carnival, malasadas, ferris wheels or lily ponds?
